چکیده

Using molecular dynamics computer simulations, we investigate the dynamics of the rotational degrees of freedom in a supercooled system composed of rigid, diatomic molecules. The interaction between the molecules is given by the sum of interaction-site potentials of the Lennard-Jones type. In agreement with mode-coupling theory (MCT), we find that the relaxation times of the orientational time correlation functions C (s) 1 (t), C (s) 2 (t) and C1(t) show at low temperatures a power-law with the same critical temperature Tc, and which is also identical to the critical temperature for the translational degrees of freedom. In contrast to MCT we find, however, that for these correlators the time-temperature superposition principle does not hold well and that also the critical exponent γ depends on the correlator. We also study the temperature dependence of the rotational diffusion constant Dr and demonstrate that at high temperatures Dr is proportional to the translational diffusion constant D and that when the system starts to become supercooled the former shows an Arrhenius behavior whereas the latter exhibits a power-law dependence. We discuss the origin for the difference in the temperature dependence of D (or the relaxation times of C (s) l ) and Dr. Finally we present results which show that at low temperatures 180 flips of the molecule are an important component of the relaxation dynamics for the orientational degrees of freedom. Rotational dynamics of a dipolar supercooled liquid.

We study the rotational dynamics of a supercooled molecular liquid by means of molecular dynamics simulations. The system under investigation is composed of rigid diatomic molecules with an associate dipole moment. At room temperature, orientational correlations decrease rapidly with increasing distances. Upon cooling, angles between dipole moments of molecules within the first coordination she...

Liquid Sloshing Effect Analysis on Lateral Dynamics of an Articulated Vehicle Carrying Liquid for Various Filled Volumes

In this paper, the consequences of filled volume on the transient lateral dynamic and stabilities boundaries displacement of an articulated vehicle carrying liquid is investigated. First, a sixteen-degrees-of-freedom nonlinear dynamic model of an articulated vehicle is developed. Then, the model is validated by using TruckSim software. Next, the dynamic interaction of the fluid cargo with the v...

Lyapunov instability of rigid diatomic molecules in three dimensions.

We study the Lyapunov instability of a three-dimensional fluid composed of rigid diatomic molecules by molecular dynamics simulation. We use center-of-mass coordinates and angular variables for the configurational space variables. The spectra of Lyapunov exponents are obtained for 32 rigid diatomic molecules interacting through the Weeks-Chandler-Andersen potential for various bond lengths and ...

Rigid rotators and diatomic molecules via Tsallis statistics

We obtain an analytic expression for the specific heat of a system of N rigid rotators exactly in the high temperature limit, and via a pertubative approach in the low temperature limit. We then evaluate the specific heat of a diatomic gas with both translational and rotational degrees of freedom, and conclude that there is a mixing between the translational and rotational degrees of freedom in...

Relaxational dynamics in the glassy, supercooled liquid, and orientationally disordered crystal phases of a polymorphic molecular material

The relaxational dynamics of the ambient pressure phases of ethyl alcohol are studied by means of measurements of frequency dependent dielectric susceptibility. A comparison of the a relaxation in the supercooled liquid and in the rotator phase crystal indicates that the molecular rotational degrees of freedom are the dominant contribution to structural relaxation at temperatures near the glass...
